Slovenian basketball player Luka Dončić plans to play for Slovenia in the upcoming Olympic Games qualifiers, despite his injury.
The outstanding shooter led the Mavericks to the NBA finals, where they ultimately lost to Boston in a 4-1 series. Despite health issues, Dončić practically carried the Texas team on his back, but in the end, he couldn’t do it alone against the great Celtics.
What troubles Slovenian fans is whether Dončić will play for the national team in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece or rest and hope that his teammates can secure a spot for Paris without him. However, it seems that Dallas Mavericks’ general manager, Nico Harrison, has already answered that question, stating that Dončić’s playing for the national team is not in doubt.
„That is probably one of his biggest joys. As long as he can walk, Luka will go play for them. That’s what I expect,“ Harrison said.
The „Zmajčeki“ reached the quarterfinals in the last competition, the World Cup in Manila, where Dončić averaged 27 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. The excellent guard won the only medal with Slovenia in 2017 when they won gold at the European Championship by defeating Serbia in the final.
In other news, former Red Star Belgrade football player Marko Stamenić is the new member of Olympiacos, as announced by the Greek club on social media.
