Jovana Bajrović, a resident of Šabac and a mother of an eleven-month-old baby, has been diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis, which causes frequent attacks of blindness and limb paralysis. In order to recover and avoid a life in a wheelchair, the solution is a stem cell treatment and chemotherapy in Russia, which her family cannot afford.
The first symptoms of twenty-nine-year-old Jovana Bajrović, who suffers from progressive multiple sclerosis, began a few years ago when she started therapy with high doses of corticosteroids.
Sudden attacks of blindness and limb paralysis became more frequent after giving birth, which is why, she says, she does not leave the apartment with the baby while her husband is at work.
„It happens in the morning when I wake up and of course it causes panic, it’s terrible when I don’t know how I will wake up in the morning, it’s totally unpredictable and difficult,“ says Jovana Bajrović.
She explained that her current therapy, available in Serbia, did not help her and that she still had attacks.
„Instead of decreasing, it was even worse,“ Bajrović said to RTS.
Jovana is seeking a cure for her progressive disease at a clinic in Russia with a stem cell transplantation and chemotherapy that costs 50,000 euros.
To raise money, she has received help from friends, charity bazaars, and concerts, and has secured one-third of the required amount.
In hopes of succeeding, always smiling Jovana does not lose her enthusiasm.
„I am aware of the chemotherapy and being away from the baby for a month, but I am ready and I must heal in order to stop the further progression of the disease and to avoid ending up in a wheelchair. So that I can witness her first steps,“ explains Bajrović.
