Jelen brdo cave in Slovenia, rescue of a speleologist is underway, who yesterday slipped and got injured at a depth of about 150 meters, Slovenian media report today.

Rescue operation has been delayed because it had to be stopped due to the worsening of the patient’s health condition.

Cave rescuer and intervention leader Damijan Šinigoj told 24ur.com website that the rescue is still ongoing.

„The patient’s condition worsened,“ said Valter Zakrajšek, who took over the rescue operation around 8 am. He added that the rescue of the speleologist will be postponed, and at best, he will be brought out of the cave by the evening.

According to the latest information, the speleologist injured his ankle and ribs, causing difficulty breathing. It may be necessary to use explosives to bring the speleologist to the surface.

The accident happened yesterday afternoon in the Jelen Brdo cave, where a group of speleologists were staying. One of them slipped and fell from a height of six meters, hitting his ribs.

A doctor managed to reach the injured speleologist last night and is monitoring his condition during the rescue. He confirmed that there are no serious injuries, but the speleologist is unable to climb due to a strong blow and present pains, as reported by N1 Slovenia.

During the night, the group with which he descended into the cave took care of the injured speleologist.

Already on Wednesday night, a team for supplying speleologists descended to the injured, set up a bivouac and brought blankets for heating, warm food and water, said Šinigoj. The Police Directorate (PU) Ljubljana was informed about the incident yesterday at around 6 pm. They confirmed that the injured person is not in mortal danger.
