Mehmed Vukalić (61), a janitor at the Sanski Most High School, who, by shooting from an automatic rifle, killed the school director Nijaz Halilović, English language teacher Gordana Midžan, and secretary Nisveta Kljunić, and then tried to take his own life, was discharged today from the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska (UKC RS) in Banja Luka.
– The hospital treatment of the patient has been completed and he has been discharged from our institution – said UKC Republika Srpska to the Banja Luka Independent newspaper.
Vukalić, according to available information, fired more than ten rounds from an automatic rifle, and at least six cartridges were found in the school director’s office alone.
The exact motive of this murder, which shocked Bosnia and the region, is still being determined.
As Muhamed Beganović, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior of the Una-Sana Canton, stated, after his release from UKC RS, Vukalić will be arrested and brought in for questioning by the cantonal investigator.
– If it is determined that he needs further hospitalization, he will be placed in the Neuropsychiatry Department of the Cantonal Hospital in Bihać and put under police surveillance. If a different decision is made, he will be placed in custody – said Beganović.
