Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon called for EU enlargement to the countries of the Western Balkans at the Dubrovnik Forum today.
„We need to be visionaries and think about how to make Europe stronger. A strong Europe means a strong Union voice in the world. A strong Europe is an expanded Europe, both in the Western Balkans and to the east,“ she said at the panel discussion „Quo vadis, Europa?“.
Slovenia will continue to advocate for EU enlargement in the future and will propose concrete solutions in accession agreements, such as using qualified majority voting instead of consensus, Fajon said.
She emphasized that Europe faces numerous challenges, including issues of democracy and demography, as reported by STA.
Fajon pointed out that the recent success of the far-right in the European elections is a clear indicator of European citizens’ dissatisfaction, to which the EU must be prepared to respond.
„The answer is clear, we need to strengthen the values that unite us,“ she concluded.
