Leonid Volkov, a colleague of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, has stated that he will „never give up the fight against President Vladimir Putin“ following Navalny’s request to „continue their work and build a beautiful Russia for the future.“ He made this statement in an interview with journalist Laura Kesenberg for the BBC.

As a reason for continuing the fight, he mentioned that it is „the only practical way to preserve Navalny’s legacy and ensure that his ultimate sacrifice is not in vain,“ Volkov said in excerpts from the interview broadcasted today.

He referred to Navalny as a „brilliant man, an inspiring personality, a true hero, and a great and very capable political leader.“

Volkov emphasized that Navalny’s death is „an open wound in our hearts“ that is irreplaceable, as reported by The Guardian.

But the task of the opposition movement now is to support Navalny’s widow, Yulia, as their new „charismatic leader,“ added Volkov.

Volkov worked as Navalny’s former chief of staff and as the president of his Foundation for the Fight against Corruption until 2023.

In March, Volkov was attacked outside his home in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he lives in exile.
